Backup codes
Backup codes are your safety net for two-factor authentication. If you lose or can’t reach your authenticator app, a backup code lets you complete sign-in. They are only relevant once you have set up 2FA.
Saving your codes
Section titled “Saving your codes”When you set up 2FA, Villva shows a set of backup codes once. Save them before you continue, you can copy or download them as a text file. Keep them somewhere safe and private, such as a password manager.
Using a backup code
Section titled “Using a backup code”At the 2FA step during sign-in, choose to use a backup code and enter one.
- Each code works only once. After it’s used, it stops working.
- The count of remaining codes is shown so you know when you’re running low.
Managing your codes
Section titled “Managing your codes”From Account & security you can, at any time:
- See how many backup codes remain.
- Regenerate your codes. This immediately invalidates every previous code and shows you a fresh set once, so save the new ones and discard the old.
- Download the current set as a text file.
Regenerating requires your current authenticator code, and only you can manage your own codes. It’s a good idea to regenerate when you’re running low or if you think your saved codes may have been exposed.
